For decades, millions of Indian farmers have struggled to earn fair prices for their hard work. While they cultivate crops with dedication, a significant share of the profits often goes to middlemen who control the journey from farms to consumers. But two young friends from Maharashtra decided to challenge this system with technology, proving that a simple idea can transform countless lives.
This is the inspiring story of Aniket Gharge and Jay Sidhpura, who founded the Indian Farmer Entrepreneurs (IFE) Store—a zero-commission online marketplace that enables farmers to sell their produce and value-added products directly to customers across India.
The inspiration behind the platform came from the struggles Aniket witnessed while growing up in a farming family in Satara, Maharashtra. Although he pursued computer engineering and briefly worked in the IT industry, his heart remained connected to agriculture. In 2017, he started a YouTube channel to document the stories of Indian farmers and understand the challenges they faced.
During his interactions, one issue repeatedly surfaced. Farmers producing high-quality organic crops and homemade products had no reliable marketplace to reach customers directly. Most were forced to depend on local traders and middlemen who purchased their produce at low prices and sold it at significantly higher rates.
One such farmer was Sachin Gore, who cultivates sugarcane and turmeric on his 3.5-acre farm. Like many others, he had little bargaining power. Middlemen would buy his products at much lower prices and sell them at hefty margins, leaving him with only a fraction of the actual value.
The financial burden became so severe that Sachin once attempted to take his own life. Supporting a family of eight with insufficient farming income had become nearly impossible. His story reflects the harsh reality faced by countless small farmers across the country.
Determined to create a solution, Aniket partnered with his college friend Jay Sidhpura in 2022 to launch the Indian Farmer Entrepreneurs (IFE) Store. Instead of creating another profit-driven e-commerce business, the duo designed a platform that works differently. Farmers list their products at their own prices, and the platform does not charge any commission. The only additional expense is a nominal packaging cost, ensuring that farmers retain almost the entire value of every sale.
The process is simple yet effective. Farmers who wish to join the platform register after providing essential product details and valid FSSAI certification. Aniket personally visits farms to verify the products and ensure quality standards. Once approved, the products are listed on the website, stored in a warehouse in Satara, and dispatched directly to customers whenever orders are received.
Beyond simply selling products, the founders also focus on building consumer trust. They create documentary-style videos showcasing how each product is grown, processed, and prepared. This transparency allows customers to understand the effort behind every purchase while giving farmers greater recognition for their work.
Today, the IFE Store offers more than 25 categories of products, including jaggery, turmeric powder, spices, pickles, millet-based foods, rose jam, natural air fresheners, and many other value-added farm products. Farmers who once sold only within their local markets are now receiving orders from customers across more than 15 Indian states, including Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Assam.
For farmers like Sachin Gore, the impact has been life-changing. Without paying hefty commissions, they are earning better profits, expanding their customer base, and receiving appreciation directly from buyers. According to the founders, many participating farmers have nearly doubled their income after joining the platform.
The journey, however, has not been without challenges. Courier delays and logistics issues occasionally affect deliveries, requiring constant follow-up with shipping partners. Managing storage, packaging, and customer expectations also demands significant effort. Yet Aniket believes these challenges are minor compared to the positive impact the platform is creating.
Interestingly, Aniket continues to support himself by running a digital marketing business while dedicating his time to building the marketplace. His family initially wanted him to pursue a stable engineering career, but he chose a different path—one driven by passion and purpose.
Today, the Indian Farmer Entrepreneurs (IFE) Store stands as a powerful example of how technology can solve real-world agricultural problems. By eliminating unnecessary intermediaries, it allows farmers to receive fair prices, reach customers nationwide, and build sustainable businesses around their products.
The story of Aniket Gharge and Jay Sidhpura reminds us that meaningful innovation is not always about creating something entirely new. Sometimes, it is about using technology to restore fairness, dignity, and opportunity to the people who feed the nation. Their zero-commission marketplace is proving that when farmers prosper, the entire agricultural ecosystem grows stronger.
